Katie Hamilton, LM, CPM, IBCLC
Mama Nurture Birth recognizes the journey of pregnancy and childbirth as a normal physiological process. Birth is an instinctive, primal event that has its own rhythm and pace that should be honored. We respect an individual’s autonomy and aim to provide our clients the dignity of being active participants in decision-making and self-care.
When the birthing person is the primary decision maker for herself and her child, she can be an active giver of birth rather than a passive receiver of birth technology. Giving birth under one’s own power helps a parent to emerge from the experience empowered with a new sense of her own capabilities.
A Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) is a knowledgeable, skilled and professional independent midwifery practitioner who has met the standards for certification set by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and is qualified to provide the Midwives Model of Care.
The Midwives Model of Care includes:
-Monitoring physical, psychological, and social well-being throughout the childbearing cycle
-Providing individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum
-Minimizing technological interventions
-Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention
The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
